Welcome to the A.Y. Jackson School Council!
The AYJ School Council is a volunteer group of parents, guardians, students, teachers and community members. Our main role is to provide a means of direct communication between parents & guardians, the local community and the school. The school council also provides parents with a wider insight into major policy issues in education and is a place where attendees can ask questions or bring concerns to the attention of the council. Through the school council, parents can also assist with certain non-core or social activities at the school.
The AYJ school council is very different from the Elementary school model as we are more informative in nature and support the activities of the students. We also host guest speakers at our meetings based on the interests of the council, parents/guardians and other attendees.
Anyone can attend school council meetings as non-voting members. But for certain activities that require leadership and/or decisions, elections are held every Fall in order to elect voting members of the council. From this group of elected members, executive positions in the council are filled.
As per Ontario policy, School Council elections must be held annually within the first 30 calendar days of the first day of the school year, and the first meeting must be held within the first 35 calendar days of the first day of the school year but following the election.
We encourage you to consider taking an active part this year in the AYJ School Council by nominating someone or yourself for election to the School Council. We also encourage you to consider participating more fully by seeking an executive position to assist us in our activities.
