Hello Jays,
It is such a pleasure and privilege to be part of the AY Jackson SS community. I grew up in this neighborhood and I can’t express how fortunate and excited I am to be back working in such a great community.
A.Y. Jackson Secondary School opened in 1976, and has over 45 years of experience building positive relationships in South Kanata. I am now in my first full year at AY Jackson and I have already noticed how caring the staff, students and parents are to each other. Together with vice-principals Toni Agraniotis-House and Stephanie Russett, we are excited to support such an amazing community.
At A.Y. we expect our students to become global citizens and to develop global perspectives. This includes educating ourselves and our students about key social issues such as racism, climate change, and globalization so that we may place our learning in the context of current World Issues.
The OCDSB’s Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Roadmap supports our growth as a community to recognize the inherent dignity of each member of our learning community and our engagement in anti-oppression and anti-racism endeavours. Respect is a notion common to every culture and is a fundamental human right. At A.Y. Jackson, we have one rule for every member of our school community: respect everybody, every day, all of the time.
If you are new to the school I encourage you to get involved. AY Jackson has opportunities for everyone such as:
- International Certificate Program
- Athletics
- Clubs
- Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) in Nutrition and Health Promotion
- J-Crew
- Student Council
- Experiential Learning such as Coop, project-based learning
- School Council for Parents
