What's New

Grade 9 Students for Sept. 2018
amilies of Grade 8 Students:

Each of our high schools is eager to meet you in September when you join your school as a grade 9 student! There are a lot of exciting opportunities ahead of you.  One responsibility for all high school students is the completion of 40 Community Involvement Hours as a requirement for graduation.  As soon as you finish grade 8 you can start to complete your hours and we strongly encourage you to do so as early as possible as your grade 12 year will be here before you know it.

The purpose of this requirement is to encourage students to develop an awareness and understanding of civic responsibility and of the role they can play and the contributions they can make in supporting and strengthening their communities. Students will plan and select their community involvement activities in consultation with their parents and as part of the Individual Pathways Plan process. Community involvement activities submitted as a requirement for graduation are subject to approval by the administration at your secondary school.

Please note that Community Involvement Hours must fall into one of these categories:

Not-for-profit: includes voluntary activities for any non-for profit institution or foundation that would not displace a paid worker.

For-profit: includes voluntary activities that are charitable-based for any business or organization that would not displace a paid worker. If volunteers are enhancing the product/service being sold by a for profit business, to make it more attractive and/or a better experience for clients, then it  is not  in keeping with the spirit of community service and would not be an approved activity.

Other: community support that you feel warrants consideration.  In this case, please submit a brief written summary to your secondary school that explains how this experience meets the spirit and expectations of Community Involvement as identified above.

If students are considering any of the activities that would fall into the second or third category above, approval by the principal or a designate at your high school is required.

Download the Community Involvement Notification and Activity Completion Sheet.

We look forward to welcoming you into one of our high schools and wish you a wonderful summer!

Final Note to Graduating Students

This is an important message for all Grade 12 Students and Parents/Guardians.

We were able to fulfill the requests for extra tickets to the Graduation Ceremony on June 29, 2018. Tickets must be presented at the door in order to enter the auditorium. You will not be able to get into the auditorium if you do not have a ticket as space is very limited. We must obey their fire regulations for the number of people allowed; there is no standing room.

Caps, gowns and tickets can be picked up from the office on June 27 and 28 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. If you cannot arrange pickup during those hours, please call the Main Office at (613)836-2527 so that we can make alternate arrangements for you.

Report cards, IEP’s, diplomas and certificates will be handed out to each graduate after they have walked across the stage. Report cards for students not attending the Graduation Ceremony will be mailed. These are official documents so please ensure that they are put in a safe place. It is the student’s responsibility to set up a meeting with student services at the post-secondary institution they will be attending and to provide the IEP.

The Graduation Ceremony is being held at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium of the Cedarview Alliance Church. The address is 2784 Cedarview Road, Nepean. Students must be at the church by 9:15 a.m. to ensure that the ceremony starts promptly.
