Business

The Business Studies department at AYJ offers a wide variety of courses for students to select from throughout their high school career.

In Grade 9, BTT1O, Introduction to Business Technology, a computer based course is offered. Students have the opportunity to develop important business technology skills such as using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software all of which are practical, transferable skills that can be used to enhance their work in other courses.

In Grade 10, students may opt to take Introduction to Business which offers students an insight into the fundamentals of business, the functions of business, entrepreneurship, and finance.

In Grades 11 and 12 a variety of business courses with more specific focus are available to students. These include Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Business Leadership (Management) and International Business. In addition, AYJ also offers courses in computer programming.

 KIVA night - January 2011

Through community partnerships, our business students have engaged in several fundraising initiatives which provide students with the opportunity to develop and practice real world application of essential business and work skills. These initiatives include: fundraising and raising awareness for the Terry Fox Foundation, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Make-A-Wish Canada and KIVA Microcredit to mention just a few. We are very proud to have witnessed students develop their knowledge, skills and more significantly to realize that they really can make a difference in the lives of others through these student-led initiatives.

Students who earn six business credits throughout their high school career will receive a Business Certificate, issued by the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, at graduation in recognition of their accumulated business knowledge and skills to complement their secondary school diploma.
